Wellington’s Victory Free Download (v2.1.3)
Game Overview
The torrential rain that had soaked the countryside of Belgium the day before began to subside at dawn on June 18. After defeating the Prussian Army of the Rhine at Ligney two days earlier, the majority of the seventy thousand French troops that make up Napoleon’s Armee du Nord hoped to capitalize on their initial victory by defeating the unsupported and inexperienced Anglo-Dutch forces that the Duke of Wellington had sent across the Brussels-Charleroi highway, a few miles south of the insignificant hamlet known as Waterloo.
While awaiting the arrival of several French Corps that had camped further south, Napoleon and his subordinates discussed the approaching battle at his headquarters in Le Caillou that morning. Napoleon, who disagreed with Wellington’s defeats of French generals in Spain, insisted that his opponent was a poor commander and that the English troops were significantly inferior to the French. Napoleon predicted that the battle would be like “le petit déjeuner,” where Wellington’s army would be devoured like a light continental breakfast.
