Game Overview
Midtown Franticness (otherwise called Midtown Frenzy: Chicago Edition) is a racing game made by Microsoft and developed by Angel Studios, which is now Rockstar San Diego. On May 1, 1999, the demo version was made available for download, and the finished game was made available toward the end of May 1999. Two spin-offs followed, with Midtown Frenzy 2 delivered in September 2000 and Midtown Franticness 3 delivered in June 2003 for the Xbox. The game is set in Chicago, and winning street races and purchasing new cars are the goals. Midtown Madness, in contrast to racing games that confine the player to a race track, provides an open-world recreation of Chicago. “Unprecedented degree of freedom to drive around in a virtual city” was said to be provided by this setting. The city can be explored in one of several modes, and each race’s weather and traffic conditions can be chosen by players.
