Game Overview

You could compare POOLS to an art gallery where you can look around and hear the sounds. There are practically no puzzles or mazes to solve. Your ability to navigate the game can be tested from time to time. Yet, generally you’re simply… there. Note: Although there are no monsters chasing you or suddenly leaping in front of you, the game can be oppressive. POOLS plays on the fear of getting lost, the darkness, and the small spaces. There is no user interface or dialogue in the game. No music in the background Instead, the game gives you the impression that you are actually there by using sounds. The echo and the sounds change depending on where you are. It takes longer to walk in water. The game feels more real because of all of these things, which also create a tense atmosphere. You won’t find any notes in the game, there isn’t a typical story, and there are no characters to meet. However, as you investigate and progress further, you begin to see that the game’s reality switches up you. Rooms appear and feel different. There is something unique in each chapter. You’re always going to new places, each one full of mystery. POOLS has six special sections, each requiring 10 to 30 minutes to play. The internet phenomenons “Liminal spaces,” “Found footage,” and “Backrooms,” specifically “Backrooms Pools,” served as inspiration for POOLS. Jared Pike was one of the first creators of the Poolrooms concept.
