Game Overview
4: Silent Hill The fourth installment in the Silent Hill survival horror series is titled The Room. Team Silent developed the game, which Konami published. On September 17, 2004, it was released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC in North America. Before becoming a full-fledged sequel, SH4 began as a side story with sporadic connections to the series. Team Silent was able to experiment and innovate on some of the series’ central concepts, sometimes discarding them altogether, due to its tangential origins. The most impressive aspect of The Room is its ability to horrify the everyday. The terror was made real in SH4. Henry Townshend can’t get out of his own apartment because he’s stuck there. All of the sequences in the apartment are in first person to emphasize the sense of familiarity. You are the one who has been chained up and taken hostage for no apparent reason. In the cramped space you call your apartment, there is no food, the phone is disconnected, and the television is off. The atmosphere is claustrophobic.
